Green Ideas

In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day, we’ve got some fun, green ideas. Feel free to use them any day.
1. Recycle a Board Book into a Lift the Flap Book for your Toddler
Repurposed books are all the rage now among artsy types, but your kiddo won’t care about that. What she will enjoy is lifting the flaps of familiar places and objects to see friends and family underneath.

2. Reuse a Safe Water Bottle…
and stop using those BPA-leaching plastic ones that end up in landfills. Amazon offers SIGG Bottles for babies, kids and adults, as well as the Klean Kanteen, and Gaiam offers an inexpensive alternative to the popular brands:

3. Avoid the Paper or Plastic Question Entirely…
with a reusable bag, like this set of 5 Envirosax for $34.95 from Acacia.

4. Stop Taking the Newspaper…
and sign up for an online subscription. Even better than recycling newsprint: don’t use it at all, and get the news when and where you want it. You can do the same with magazines: most of your favorites will probably have a website with articles and ideas. You can print or save what you want, and leave the rest in cyberspace.

5. Xeriscape Your Yard
Less green is more. There are some great how-to guides out there, like this one from Albuquerque Bernalillo County.
